Q:
I found in one question, in a room, pressure at 1m is normal atmospheric pressue. and the question is the difference betwween pressure 1m and pressure at floor. so i answer the question. but the pressure at floor is lower than the pressure at 1m .Is it possible? i learned the pressure at higher place is lower than the lower place.

A:

So long as the air is in equilibrium the lower region will have more pressure than the higher region. There are a couple ways of seeing this. Mechanically, the pressure supports the weight of the atmosphere above it. The lower region has more atmosphere above it so it must have higher pressure. In equilibrium the probabilities of positions of individual molecules follow a Boltzmann distribution, which falls off as potential energy (mgh) gets larger.
