Powering an LED

Q:
I am using a computer power supply for home projects (model railroad) mounted on a workbench. I have an LED rated for 12 volts, LUMEX part number SSI-LXW06DNS-G12V. The LED part drawing shows an integral resistor. Can a negative -10 volt lead from the power supply be used to power the LED? Thank you in advance.

A:

10V probably will be enough to get some light out, but not as much as you'd get with 12V. You do have to be careful the get the positive and negative signs right. LED's don't work in reverse,
