The Physics Van is run by a group of students in the Physics department at the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign. We were started in 1994 by Professor Mats Selen and a group of his students. Now, we have more than thirty active members (mostly undergraduates) from all across campus. Not all of our members are Physics students - we have members from the departments of Mathematics, Economics, Animal Science, etc. Nearly all are volunteers.

The demos that we do change periodically as members of the group find new/better demos than the ones we have, so we are constantly improving. As for how far we go, we generally do not travel more than an hour from Champaign-Urbana, IL. (We do travel to Bloomington, Decatur, etc. in Illinois.) We have, occasionally, traveled further for special events such as the "Science All Around Us" weekend sponsored by the University of Illinois at the Peggy Notebaert Nature Museum in Chicago.
