What Does VAN Signify?

As far as I know, you are the first one to ask this question.  

Here at the University of Illinois we want to increase the interest of young people in science in general and physics in particular.  To that end we developed a program to educate elementary and high school students by taking entertaining and educational demonstrations around to schools in our area of Illinois.   The program has been a success and we are always getting more requests for these visit. 

The "Van" was born when it was necessary to haul around the necessary apparatus for the demonstrations.   A sports utility van was just the thing, and the name just sort of stuck.
