I'm a bit confused with a magnetic question. If opposites ATTRACT then how come the NORTH of a magnet points to the NORTH pole and not away from it? Is the north pole actually a south pole?!?

You're exactly right. The Earth's magnetic North Pole is of the same kind that would be called a south pole on some other little magnet.  I hope you are considering becoming a physicist.
