Magnetized Screws

I was going through a box of screws, and found a few that had become magnetized. There was no magnet nearby. How did this happen?

I don't know, but my best guess is that those screws were magnetized on purpose by their manufacturer. Magnetic screws can be useful because you can hold them or pick them up with a steel screwdriver.
