An article today in the NY Times "Deadly Convenience: Keyless Cars and Their Carbon Monoxide Toll" mentioned one case in which soda cans (Pepsi)left in a garage, where the car was left running, had exploded. A picture of the cans was included in the article.I would like to understand what causing this exploding condition.Thank you.

There's no reasonable way for car exhaust to make cans explode. A quick search of that article does not turn up the words "soda", "Pepsi", "explode", or "cans". I don't see any picture of exploded cans.  Perhaps you've confused it with another article.
