Being and Nothingnes

Please help. Some people say nothing is nothing. But I feel, how can that be possible? The saying goes - Everything emanates from it, yet it, emanates from nothing. Is nothing not then the realm of infinite possibilities? Because energy also can not be destroyed, it simply transforms from one form to another?

Questions as abstract as this allow for a great range of answers without any being clearly right or wrong. Yet it's tempting to note that "Is nothing not then the realm of infinite possibilities?" has a certain resemblance to the behavior of a quantum mechanical vacuum.
