When to add Pool Water

Most recent answer: 05/28/2011

Q:
My son and I are having a disagreement on whether it is better to fill the pool during the daytime or at night to . We do this using a water hose. I say that since water continues to evaporate and lowers the level of the water anyway, that over a 24-hr. period the amount of water used would be the same overall. He claims that we would save money in the long run if we added the water at night What time of day would be best?

Your argument sounds right to me. Does your son have any explanation for his claim?

Follow-Up #1: pool covers

Q:
There is no difference weather you fill the pool at night or day time the loss of water in a 24 hour priod is the same. There would be a difference if you measure evaparation at nightime only. Wind and Temperature would also have a lot to do with evaparation. To solve the evapuration totally PUT A POOL COVER OVER IT. Wally
