What is the fastest car and how fast was it.?

cites several reported values for the fastest experimental car. The fastest of those listed comes in at 766 mph (over the speed of sound!) by the Thrust SSC car at Black Rock Desert in Nevada, in 1997.

The fastest is listed at 240 mph. This one was the McLaren F1 in 1999.

Actually i dont have a question but a comment, the question was asked by a 8 year old boy, he asked what the fastest car was, and you responded that the STREET LEGAL car was a McLaren F1, when actually its the Chevrolet Callaway Sledgehammer Corvet, it it the speed of 409.9 kph/254.7 mph. Thanks!!!!! Teresa
