Nearly everyone who helps to answer questions on this server are undergraduate student volunteers. Because of this, the time it takes to get your answer back may depend on students’ schedules. For example, students generally can not answer questions very quickly while they are involved with final exams or midterms. Also, questions are not necessarily answered in the order in which they are submitted. If a question is simple and can be answered quickly, it will most likely be answered faster than a question that requires a good deal of research.

Additionally, all answers on this server are reviewed for correctness by a member of the physics faculty before being posted. As such, if that professor is doing fieldwork or at a conference, it may take several additional days before the answers can be posted.

Lastly, it is possible (even likely) that your son’s question has been answered previously. With several hundred questions answered so far, many topics have already been thoroughly covered. Unfortunately, we do not have the resources to answer the same question more than once. You can use the "Search Our Answers Collection" link to look for these answers. We apologize for any inconvenience that this may pose.
