The earth tides have two sources: the sun and the moon. The moon tides are about twice as strong as the tides due to the sun. I'm not sure, but I think your question is related to the phenomenon of tidal-locking in which case a moon's orbit will lock into its planet's rotational period. In the case of the earth-moon system this will occur in the far distant future. Nevertheless there will still be tides on the earth due to the sun. Maybe this site will help you:
