Where do Planets and Satellites get Their Light?

A:
The planets and satellites in our solar system are all illuminated by the sun.   What you see is the reflected light from the sun.  A good example is the light we see from the moon.  At full moon we see the whole surface being illuminated.  At new moon, the illuminated area is away from us and can't see it.
