A:
That’s a really good question, but the answer is that right now, nobody (not even the government) could shoot a very powerful laser from a satellite. Yes, it is possible to build a very powerful laser. The problem is that these lasers are so big that they take up a good-sized building. In order to get into space, satellites have to be light enough to be carried by a rocket, or they have to actually be built in space. So it just wouldn’t be possible for them to have lasers that big on satellites. Maybe someday they’ll be able to make these lasers smaller, but they haven’t yet. (Although they may be able to get them small enough to fit on a large airplane within the next few years.)
