Is it possible for solid matter to travel as fast as light while in space?

A:
No.  Irrespective of whether it's in space or in a laboratory on earth, finite mass matter can approach but cannot reach the speed of light.   The limits have been tested and verified by many high energy accelerators such as Fermilab and CERN.  This agrees with the  theory of special relativity.
