Q:
I calculated a light year by multiplying the speed of light per second. (186,282.3976 miles/second). Mulitplying this by 60, miles/minute = 11,176,944; x 60, miles/hour, (670,616,631) x 24 miles per day (16,094,799,153), x 365=5,874,601,690,714 miles per year, or 1 light year. Why would these calculatioins be different than the many figures given on the web?

A:
Probably the discrepancy just comes from a year being closer to 365.242 days, not 365. Mike W.
