Is Spin From a Wave?

Q:
If any physical value is quantized, should the quantization always(?) be explained by wave mechanics? For example, spin of fundamental particles seem to be quantized, does it mean how spin arises is explained by wave nature of the phenomenon? If so how wave mechanics explain the existence, property and behavior of spin? Spin is some kind of wave? If so what kind of wave is it?

A:
Within currently established physics, spin is treated as an intrinsic property of particles, not arising from any sort of wave equation. I don't know if that will remain the case if our current particles become understood as solutions of some sort of geometrical equation in a higher dimensional space, as the string theorists hope to do.
