Cooling Enclosed Space

Most recent answer: 07/20/2013

Q:
I have a friend who lives in a huge room (like a warehouse kind of space) with no possibility to use a window AC unit/leave doors open/windows open...its like 85 degrees in there...is there anyway for them to cool the space down internally?

There's no completely "internal" solution, since that would violate thermodynamics. There are practical solutions, however. A standard central ac unit could work, but would require air ducts to reach the enclosed room from outside. A better solution would be a "mini-split" system. In these systems cooled fluid from an outdoor compressor is sent through rather small pipes to an air-handling unit in the room. If heating is needed, you can get models that can run in reverse as heat-pumps as well. These tend to be quite efficient.
