I'm not quite sure I understand the specifics of your question but I suggest you read the Wikipedia article: 
where the second law is stated as:
The    a of  a body is and directly proportional to the net F acting on the body, is in the direction of the net force, and is inversely proportional to the m of the body, i.e., F = ma.
