K-12 Science 2 Schools Traveling Science Programs: Frontier Physics

Program Title:
Frontier Physics
Location:
Northern Illinois University DeKalb, IL, United States
Website:
E-mail:
Geographical Area:
North Central Illinois
General Description:
Frontier Physics' main outreach program during the school year is our Road Show which is presented primarily by our Outreach Coordinator with assistance from students. The Road Show presents a broad slice of physics demonstrations with a portion of the show done in the dark to look at various lights, including gas spectrum tubes, with "rainbow" glasses (diffraction lenses) that the students get to keep. Other portions of the show involve liquid nitrogen and each year we use a different experiment to talk about the scientific process. We have several smaller scale programs for high school students including a "High School Event" on campus each spring and a HS Physics Quiz Contest in the fall. We will host the regional science fair beginning in 2004.

Frontier Physics sponsors and directs NIU's summer camp programs for middle school and high school youth, Scicamp Explorations and Scicamp Senior. We DO science! No books, Just Lots of Action!
