K-12 Science 2 Schools Traveling Science Programs: UCI Chemistry Outreach Program

Program Title:
UCI Chemistry Outreach Program
University of California, Irvine Irvine, CA, United States
Geographical Area:
All the schools in orange county and at UCI campus
General Description:
The UCI Chemistry Outreach Program sends UCI student volunteers to local high schools to perform chemical demonstrations. We also provide an opportunity for your students to ask the volunteers questions about careers in chemistry, what courses are required for a chemistry major, etc. Our goal is to introduce your students to the fun side of chemistry and to help them understand the role it plays in their everyday lives. The schools that we have visited are very enthusiastic about our program. We have three shows that we can perform for your students. First, The Variety Show is a combination of several different demonstrations that illustrate principles like the ideal gas law and acid-base chemistry. Second, The Polymer Show (a.k.a. The "M"-train Show) is an introduction to the world of polymers and their uses in the world around us. Third, The Organic Show (a.k.a. Chemistry with Mother Nature) focuses on the chemistry of carbon. We've worked hard to make each of these shows accessible to any level of student. To learn more about our program, please visit our newly updated web site.
