Geographical Area:
We normally serve the eastern half of Virginia, and Northeast North Carolina. We have traveled as far as south as Fayetteville, NC, as far west as Staunton, VA, and as far north as Springfield, VA.
General Description:
The Virginia Air & Space Center is a non-profit science center that is the visitor center for NASA Langley Research Center, in Hampton, VA. We do a number of different outreaches [see below].
Area of Science:
We primarily target physical science (Force, Motion, Energy, including Electricity, Light and Sound), and also include some Earth Science / Geology.
Target Grade Levels:
We primarily serve grades K through 8.
Target Group Size:
Programs are generally targeted for 1 class of students (25, +/-) at a time, although some programs can be adapted for presentation to larger audiences (school-wide assemblies). There is information about both in-house and outreach education programs on our web site.
There is normally a fee for our outreach programs. There is a standard fee schedule for programs within an approxiamtely 50 mile radius, with additional fees for travel to more distant sites. We may do some outreach programs at no fee, depending on circumstances.
