Photons and Pure Energy

Saying that photons are "pure energy" is a bit misleading. They have momentum and angular momentum as well, and they interact wih some other fields (charged particles) but not all. So they have lots of specific features beyond just energy.

Likewise, no known field corresponds to simple mass with no other particular properties. Even black holes have angular momentum and electric charge.
