Q:
We live in the country and we do not own a back-up generator. When we have a power outages we have no WATER/HEAT/A.C./LIGHTS etc....
Is it possible to rig-up a battery (only for emergencies)to at least keep the water flowing during power outages?

A:
I am assuming that your water comes from a well and is powered by an AC pump. If so, you can buy a DC to AC converter that will do the trick. You have to redo the wiring to the pump so that it can plug into the converter. Make sure you have a really heavy duty battery, preferably of the deep cycle variety.
You also need to buy a battery charger. Also you might want to consult a local electrician.
