Q:
What is the relationship between torch batteries and bulbs. I have a couple of old torches using 6v batteries. So I need 6v batteries ? Two 1.5v batteries need 3v bulb and so on. If the exact match is not available do I choose the next bulb up in voltage or down and what is the effect?

A:
You should use the same battery voltage as the bulb voltage.  But you can add batteries in series, like two 3-Volt batteries will work as a single 6-Volt battery.   If you use a different voltage than that prescribed you will have either a dim bulb or an over bright bulb that will soon burn out.   Try to match as closely as possible.
