Q:
Ive searched on-line, and many sources have gotten the same answer as my science experiment, but they have not answered WHY. So, my question is WHY does extra co2 help plants reproduce better? I found that it does, but WHY??

A:
Plants need CO
2 as the source of carbon for photosynthesis, the process by which the make sugars and other big molecules. If there’s no CO
2, the process stops altogether. It’s not surprising that a little extra CO
2 can speed it up a bit, just as supplying a little extra of any nutrient tends to speed up growth.
