A:
The big advantage of biomass (energy from photosynthetic organisms) is that it is renewable. The energy in plants comes from sunlight, and the sun keeps shining on the earth. Fossil fuels are just fragments of biomass that happened to get buried and turn into convenient compact form. The problem is that when we use them up, they aren’t replaced. As we use them up, our choices are to find replacements, cut way back on our standard of living, or cut way back on our population, or some combination of those. So biomass has some appeal.
