Great question! The most important thing to remember about building a Rube Goldberg Machine is to be creative! Here's some links to people who can tell you more:

Check out the official Rube Goldberg webpage. You can see some of the comics that gave people the idea to make them in the first place!

Argonne National Laboratory has a really big Rube Goldberg Machine Contest every year. Look through their page and you can find all sorts of good information and ideas.

Also, check out the Incredible Machine II. This is a computer game that's based off of Rube Goldberg machines. It's a lot of fun and may give you some ideas on what to do with yours. You can download a free demo of the game from this link.

Last but not least, the University of Illinois Physics Society builds a Rube Goldberg machine every year for the Engineering Open House that's held here. You can check out some of the things they've built by following the "EOH" link from their page.

Good luck!
