Q:
Can man made technology create enough ozone to repair the ozone layer or if we cut down on CFC's can we increase the repair of the ozone layer to a significant degree?

A:

Hello Ryan,

No, it's not really practical.   The dominant production of ozone is from the solar ultraviolet radiation incident on the upper atmosphere.  And it's free.   Any known commercial method would be outrageously expensive and might have other side effects.  The best we can do is to continue and improve our regulation of halocarbon compounds such as refrigerants, etc.   Progress is being made but we need to keep going on it.  There is a lot of information on the Wiki site at   .
