How do you make gaseus nitrogen turn into solid nitrogen without going through the liquid state?
Harrisonville Middle School, MO
You could cool it at very low pressure. At low enough pressure the gas
converts directly to solid. I believe, based on a quick Google search,
that the necessary pressure is below 12.5 kPa. That's about 1/8 of
atmospheric pressure. At 12.5 kPa the freezing temperature is 63.18 K.
