Why is chlorin and sodium dangerous in pure form?
- brianna (age 10)
Chlorine is a gas at ordinary temperatures and pressures. It is an oxidant. If you breath pure chlorine gas it will destroy your lungs very quickly. You can detect its presence even in minute quantities. It smells like bleach.
Sodium is a metal. It interacts strongly with water to produce hydrogen gas and heat. In large quantities it can cause a fire.
