How can I prove to my boyfriend that lead is more dense than water? And I have forgotten how density is defined...molecules are closer together something something...?

Get a lead brick and drop it into a bucket of water. If the brick sinks it is denser than water. If the brick floats then it is less dense than water. If this doesn't convince your boyfriend then find a new one who is not as dense.
By the way, density is defined as the weight per unit volume, for example the density of water is very close to 1 gram per cubic centimeter.
p.s. It may be hard to find a brick. Maybe some lead shot or an old fishing weight would be easier to find. Mike W.
