how fast does sound move in one second when in the water
- lewis and ceri (age 10)
Sound travels around 1500 meters per second in water. It varies slightly with temperature.
This is much faster than the velocity of sound in air, which is only about 340meters per second.
The web site at http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Speed_of_sound
is full of details.
