K-12 Science 2 Schools Traveling Science Programs: What The Heck's A Chemystery?
What The Heck's A Chemystery?
University of Louisville Louisville, KY, United States
For the American Chemical Soc. I have traveled as far as Texas and New York and Florida. I have to drive to transport my chemicals and equipment, but the ACS covers that. It is convenient to travel anywhere in Kentucky and the states surrounding Kentucky. I can usually do that in one day, but even those distances could require an overnight. I am O.K. with that, but it would be nice if my expenses could be covered.
I perform about 12 demos ranging from color changes to a hydrogen/oxygen Coke bottle explosion to making nylon and some "not to good" singing of a song about pollution. The talk takes about one hour. I have also used the demos in a talk about the book "The 7 Habits of Highly Effective Teens", with the title of the presentation "7 Habits In A Beaker". I have presented this at some high schools and colleges and three times at the Intel International Science and Engineering Fair as a "Shop Talk". I hope this is helpful.
Chemistry
The talk works well for K - 12 students and has been presented many times to adult chemists and friends as an American Chemical Society tour speaker presentation.
