K-12 Science 2 Schools Traveling Science Programs: About This Site

What is this site?

This site is supported by the University of Illinois Physics Van. We are a traveling science show that visits schools in central Illinois, but we are often asked to visit schools too far away for us to travel to (i.e. southern Illinois, Idaho, and Abu Dhabi). So we put together this directory of science programs that visit schools - the goal is to let groups like ours refer schools in other places to programs nearer to them. Teachers and parents can also use the site to find traveling science programs in their area.

How do I use it?

Just select your country at the top. From the US map, click on your state. Also make sure to check the states surrounding yours —many programs travel to more than one state. If you still can't find a program near you, here are some other places to look.

What sort of programs are included?

The programs in this directory all do basically the same thing we do - go to schools and get kids excited about science. Not all of them are assembly-style... there are also classroom workshops, mobile exhibits, and mobile laboratories. The programs are run by colleges/universities, research institutions, museums, and private organizations. They focus on all different areas of science and target all different age levels. Costs vary by program, but many are available to schools free of charge. The common thread is that these are all programs that can come to your school and get your kids excited about science - if you ask them.

How was the information in this directory collected?

We located most of these programs by lots of web-searching. (Thank you, Google!) A few were refered to us by others. We emailed each group inviting them to be part of the directory - only those who responded are included. Program descriptions and other information were provided by the groups themselves. If you know of a program not on our list, please tell us. If you'd like to have your own program added, please include as much of the following information as possible:
